“In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary” ~ Aaron Rose
The castings that adorn these lamps were originally designed to protect us and make our surroundings beautiful. Since the late 1800’s ornamental cast iron has been used to grace our lives and our buildings in everything from fences, railings, balconies and supports. Now that they have seen the end of their functional life, my hope is that they can once again serve a new purpose and grace your home with light and beauty.
The lamps are designed and fabricated using several metal working and colorization techniques. The casting parts come from a group specializing in cast iron restoration and some are new castings some very old. Techniques used for adding color to the lamps include various paints, heat transfer, acid etching and the ancient method using guilders paste. The shape is cut from from the original cast iron pieces, then color and texture are applied and a shade added to compliment the lamp. The lamps are various sizes ranging from 16 to 27 inches tall.
“We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light”. ~Mary Dunbar
